Microsoft Media Player is Windows 11's default multimedia player, replacing Microsoft's Groove Music, Windows Media Player, and Movies & TV multimedia applications. Microsoft released Media Player in 2022 for Windows 11, then added it to Windows 10 In 2023.

While Groove Music and Movies & TV require you to navigate multiple menus to find and open files, Media Player allows you to open any media file directly from its Home menu via a straightforward Open file(s) button.

The app also retains Groove Music's best features: organizing your music library and quickly creating and playing playlists. Also, since Media Player can play audio and video files, you can now add videos to your playlists.
